Tree I.V. by Sayegrow
Reviewed March 2000

Deep root watering of young trees and shrubs is vital for their survival.   Unfortunately simply laying a garden hose at the base of the plant and turning on the water is often inadequate.  Most of the water runs over the soil surface never reaching the deep roots.  The Tree I.V. is designed to simplify and improve this important gardening task.

We have found that many of the best products are based on the simplest designs and concepts.  This is certainly true of Tree I.V.  There are two main components - a five gallon bucket with a small hole in the bottom, and a funnel-like spike (called an injector) that fits into the aforementioned hole.  The injector is pushed into the ground near the base of the plant.  The bucket is then placed onto the injector.  Fill the bucket with the desired amount of water and it is forced into the ground near the deep roots where it is needed most.

This product works.  It is especially nice that you can add fertilizer to the water in the bucket and know that it is reaching the roots at the desired concentration.

The manufacturer, located in Cherryvale, KS, suggests that users permanently place one injector at the base of each plant and use two buckets so one can be filled while the other is draining.  Sounds like good advice.

Tree I.V. is available directly from the manufacturer.  Visit their website at: www.sayegrow.com
